Starter Questions - Revision

1. Justify 3 reasons why a Coder would be important to the production with examples. [3]

As Garmz is a service solely on the internet, a coder would be important as they would have to create the whole site, and as a result the whole service of the company, by coding the website to fit the needs of the company. And a coder would have in depth knowledge of JavaScript, the tool for making the site (as it lets you code in images, sounds, logins, interactice features etc), to appeal to a mass audience, which is very important as it couldn't be made without it. Coding parts of the website such as account and settings pages, along with the hyperlinks that come with them, and the interactive features used while buying clothes (sub pages, hyperlinks etc to easily find what you're looking for), which would be designed by the Graphic Designer and implemented by the Coder (interpreted through tools such as Site Maps). As a result, they would be very important, as no other person would possess the knowledge of important software needed to create the site.

2. Justify 3 reasons why a Graphic Designer would be important to the production with examples. [3]

Again, the website is the only interactive part of the whole company, which is what all of the customers will be using. Because of this, a Graphic Designer is important as they would create the look of the website which would attract customers to the service, including creating and implementing a House Style for the website (e.g. which would have to be gender neutral, as it's made to appeal for a wide audience), creating a logo to establish a brand, placing sub pages and hyperlinks in places that would look and function effectively to make the process easy for the customer etc, like the catwalk or clothing types (layout). In depth knowledge of programmes such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, as well as some sort of art qualification or experience, would be needed to fulfill this role, as these programmes would need to be used together to make the product, so a this role would be very important to production, as no other person would have experience with these programmes and how to use them effectively.

3. Identify and Explain one online research method that would be suitable to gain audience feedback. [3]

Questionnaires, distributed either by Email or on a website such as SurveyMonkey, would be very suitable for this task. This is because they can be distributed virtually for free, so they can reach a lot of people, which would mean they'd be able to get a lot of quantitative data to compare easily. Also, you would be able to get instant data/feedback.

4. Identify and Explain one face-to-face research method that would be suitable to gain audience feedback. [3]

Interviews would be suitable for this task, as being able to interact and expand on points, such as what parts of the House Style work and what doesn't, what interactive features are missing or uneeded etc, would be very effective at gaining qualitative data, because they would be able to go into detail about their decisions and opinions surrounding parts of the Garmz website, and the interviewer would be able to ask the person exactly what they want to know, making it very suitable.

5.  Explain one problem with using an online method. [3]

Although it can be distributed to a large audience, response rate would be very low. Because of this, the sample could become unreliable, as an unrepresentative percentage of the sample could respond, skewing results (for example, only women may respond, eventhough it's aimed at all genders). This could lead to unreliable results, which may negatively effect the building of the site as it may not be representative of the user base.

6. Explain one problem with using a face-to-face method. [3]

It is very slow to gather information via an interview, as the length of the interview + planning and finding people to interview would take up a long time, so there would be less information to compare and use, which could mean that the information is not representative of the whole user base as the small amount of information could mean that some parts are missed out.

7. Explain why the full target age range would need to be sampled. [3]

The design and functionality of Garmz would need to appeal to a wide audience, as the target audience is wide. Also, a variety of ages would need to be sampled to ensure that the website can be navigated by a variety of ages easily, so they can use the product and use the service easier.

8. Explain one reason why the mainstream nature might impact on people chosen to take part in the feedback. [3]

People who are more likely to be interested in services like this would need to be sampled (which would be a wide sample as it's mainstream), as they would be the demographics most likely to use the service and so it needs to be made so they can use it as easily as possible, to ensure the maximum amount of sales and profit.

Storyboard

When saying Ext or Int, say location as well, e.g. Ext Park

Camera Movement Arrows and talk about it below

Company Logo and Slogan

Voice Over or Music in every shot (Non-Diegetic)

Product in a Close Up

Drawing Question Revision

Most important features of storyboards:
Camera movements - zoom, pan, tilt, track
Interior or Exterior - location
Lighting - High and Low Key
Actor placement + movement
Sound - Music, dialogue
Title graphics - name, logo etc
Shot types - close up (focussing on a person or object), mid shot (body movement, groups), long shot (locations)
Pictures - represents shot type
Angles - High and Low angles
Timings
Scene number
Editing techniques - cut to, fade up and fade out for graphics

Tips
Don't spend more than 25 minutes on it in the exam
Unlike a sitemap, you'll already have annotations by writing underneath it
Don't draw stick men
Annotations are as important as your drawing

Sitemaps should include:
Breadcrumb trail - ease of navigation, users freedom of where to go
Settings - personalise
Account/Profile/Login/Register - personalise
Home - How each page connects back to the home
About Us
Pages
Sub pages - what hyperlinks are on there etc
Hyperlinks
Interactive features - photos, videos, text (include what they would be)
Social Media - include social media links, atracts target audience, good source of revenue stream (Synergy)
Hierarchical Structure - programmer would recognise structure
Consistent House Style on pages and sub pages

Effectiveness of a visualisation diagram
Fit for purpose
Strength
Useful
Examples - brief
Examples - personnel, job roles who'd use it
Features that make it effective

5 Things that make a visualisation diagram effective
Annotations of house style - can decide which design is effective, fitting etc, for the audience, client, graphic designer and programmer
Can be shown to the client or target audience for feedback - positive or negative can be effective
Adaptable - can be changed based of feedback, so it appeals to wide target audience
